hi

I think for an accurate sync its better to create a db file to work like this:

for each song:
   1) for the first time:
      a) store the sum of the playconts (p#) of itunes (e.g. 2) and wmp (e.g. 1) to db file (so 2+1=3).
      b) set the p# of both itunes and wmp to sum (so itunes = 3 & wmp = 3).

   2) after that (for example I listened to the song 5 times in itunes and 3 times in wmp but we don't know this yet):
      a) itunes p# will be (3+5=8) and wmp p# will be (3+3=6), but we need to see how many times we've played the song, so: for itunes (8-3=5) and for wmp (6-3=3)
      b) stor sum of the played times + last db's value in db file. that is 5+3+3=11
      c) set the p# of itunes and wmp to the new value of the db file.

let me know if I didn't make this clear.

thanks

Odd. It should work for x86 (32-bit) versions of Windows too. I'm afraid I'm not sure what could be wrong. I can only suggest the following in no particular order: download and install iTunes again (www.apple.com/itunes) and download and install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 (www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=333325FD-AE52-4E35-B531-508D977D32A6). x_x

I used it in the past and it worked like a charm but I had to reinstall Windows, .Net and all my applications on my computer and now it no longer works. Can you help?
I get the window "Orzeszek Ratings" with the checkbox Sync Play counts and Sync User Ratings but I also get another window from Microsoft indicating that the program has stopped working (A problem caused the program to stop working properly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
I am using Window vista on a 32 bit. Can you help?
Thanks

Really great and fast, my library has about 5300 songs, and it copied the data in a matter of minutes.

Thanks for putting this together.

Can I asked what program you used to compile the executable? I like the skin and fading menus.

In case this has happened to anyone else... If your music is stored on a mapped drive, WMP will use the full UNC path so you need to make sure that you do the same in iTunes. I fought this for an hour before I realized that WMP was using //server/share/ and iTunes was using z:\share\

@Marc: The issue was never resolved. I’m not sure what the problem could be. I’m at work at the moment, but when I get home, I might see whether I can replicate the problem with the French version of iTunes. I’ll send you an e-mail.

Do you have the French version of iTunes? What about Windows?

Hi

I get an Unexpected Error when trying to sync from WMP11 tp Itunes 10 under windows 7.

I looked at previous posts and you seem to indicate having a french version might be an issue ? Was that confirmed ? Anything I can do to confirm it/help you find a fix/workaround ?

My scenario is exactly the same as you (1000's of songs rated under WMP) but I got a shuffle 3g as a gift I'd like to load using ratings based selections so I'm locked to itunes which doesn't have any ratings so I import playlists from wmp to itunes as needed which is a pain!.

It's no big deal. I downloaded and used it anyway lol.. However I think this'll be a "use once every 3-6 months" type thing for me, since I'm only going to worry about big overhauls every once in a while, not the tiny details.. It works great though and was really useful, so thanks a lot for making this. I would definitely recommend it.

@Carlos: Orzeszek Ratings does <em>not</em> sync the ratings in real-time. It’s a huge shame that iTunes and WMP don’t store the ratings in the same place. It’s such a pain to sync these ratings on demand, particularly if you have a large music library.

I don't suppose this works in real-time? From what I've read so far, it seems like the answer is no.. But just to make sure.. I mean, that's the only way I would use it because of the constant need to re-sync instead of it auto-syncing for me [i.e.: as soon as I rate a song in iTunes, it changes in WMP as well without me having to do anything]. If only iTunes and WMP stored and retrieved their data from the same place none of this would be an issue..

@YorSubs: Orzeszek Ratings only works if iTunes and WMP both point at the same location (eg, D:\Music).

I always turn off the features in both iTunes and WMP that tend to automatically change tags in music. For example, I turn off the options for automatically finding missing album information or album art, and the option in iTunes to keep the iTunes folder organized.

I don’t actually use iTunes or WMP to change ID3 tag information, so I don’t know if either software does anything unusual in that regard. I use Tag&Rename for that (though there are plenty of other good options).

I usually listen to music on my computer using WMP (and rate it there), and use iTunes to sync my music to my iOS devices. There’s no particular reason why I do it that way. That’s just how I use the software, and that’s why I needed something like Orzeszek Ratings.

As far as I know, iTunes never writes its ratings information into the ID3 tags, so if you sync ratings to iTunes you’ll change the ratings in the iTunes database but not the actual MP3 or AAC files themselves.

WMP will save its ratings information into the ID3 tags if the <strong>Maintain my star ratings as global ratings in files</strong> is selected. If you sync ratings to WMP with that option selected in WMP, it will write those ratings to the ID3 tag in the actual MP3 or AAC files themselves, and those ratings will be visible in WMP or in Windows Explorer even if you reset the WMP database.

I found this site after noticing that if I start WMP and point it at my iTunes database, then I can effectively manage my music using both iTunes / WMP to take advantage of features in either. However, I'm wary of this, as I'm concerned that both will try to rewrite the metadata ID3 tags, and it occured to me that this could potentially screw up my collection. When you say "If you use both Windows Media Player and iTunes to manage your music", do you mean what I am also proposing ? i.e. a single music collection at D:\Music, that iTunes points at, but also WMP simultaneously ? or do you mean keeping 2 distinct copies of your music databases at say D:\MusicWMP and D:\MusiciTunes . If you manage a single music collection from both WMP and iTunes, could you tell me something about potential gotchas or odd tag renaming that goes on by either piece of software that could potentially mess up my collection ? I think your software looks great, as if, as i think that means you manage a single collection with both WMP and iTunes, then it gives us more flexibility to be able to update ratings etc between them.

@Tim: Haha. Thanks for the feedback.

There isn’t a command line switch at the moment, so you can’t automate the app to run daily etc. I’m swamped at work at the moment, so I can’t look at it right now, but that’s definitely a feature that <strong>needs</strong> to be in there.

Here's a question: how would I automate the process? Is there a command line switch I can use, for example if I wanted to run your program every morning?

thnx!
